Clifden tuning up for return of Trad Fest

The Blackwater Céilí Band will be the headline act at the outdoor gig on Saturday, April 9.

The 11th Annual Clifden Traditional Music Festival is returning after a two-year absence and will take place from Thursday, to Sunday, April 7-10, kicking off with a Seisiún na nÓg, a free concert in the Woodfield Hotel on April 7 at 7pm.

The Scoil Mhuire Marching Band will be in action early on Friday, entertaining in the town square at 11am.

The official opening and concert will take place in the Clifden Station House Theatre at 7pm that evening, with artists from all over Ireland as well as lots of local talent.

Saturday starts with music workshops in fiddle, button accordion and concertina from 10am to 12.30pm in Scoil Mhuire National School. The top-class tutors will include Michael Curran and John Carroll (accordion), Rosie Ferguson (fiddle), Clara Mannion and Paul Clesham (concertina).

Sessions are a vital part of the festival, with champion musicians from all over Ireland taking part.

They include Anthony Kavanagh (banjo), John Carroll and Michael Curran (accordion) and George McAdam (banjo), Gearóid McNamara and Paul Clesham on piano, Liz and Yvonne Kane(fiddles), Nathan Piltazke (dancer), and the Blackwater Céilí Band from County Tyrone.  All musicians are most welcome to take part in the sessions in venues throughout the town over the weekend.
