Clifden Beach has failed to comply with minimum EU water quality standards.

The Connemara beach is among just four bathing areas in the entire country which were given a ‘poor’ water quality status.

The findings were revealed in the EPA report ‘The quality of bathing water in Ireland’ published this afternoon.

Every other bathing area in Galway including Salthill and Silverstrand in the city met the EU mandatory standards.
