Classy production for younger audiences

Spring and lambs go together like peaches and cream or, well, lamb and mint sauce so Branar’s show, Woolly’s Quest which is currently touring Ireland is very much in season.

Bleating noises from offstage at the Town Hall Theatre even before the characters came on stage, informed audience members of all ages (but mostly four to 10) that this was going to be a full-on sheep story. And so, it was, with wonderful performances backed by great music and visuals.

Woolly, the sheep in question, has a beautiful fleece of which she is very proud – maggots have never been a problem in this fictional farmyard, so she doesn’t understand why it’s been shorn from her! She’s devastated when that happens and it’s whisked away by tractor and trailer (wonderfully visualised) to go to a place unknown.  Woolly is determined to recover it and sets off on a quest to do just that – a quest that proves to be occasionally arduous and dangerous for this little sheep.

Through bravery, grit and with help from characters she meets along the way, Woolly succeeds. Once she knows what the fleece is being used for – making clothes to keep people warm – she is more than happy to relinquish it.
