Classy Corofin hold too many aces

THIS might be unseasonal weather for pedigrees but in the arctic rectangle that was Kiltoom GAA grounds last Sunday, it was the footballers of Corofin who held a distinct edge in footballing class as they comfortably advanced to the final of the Connacht club series.
Corofin might have struggled to put away the challenge of Cortoon in the county final but this defeat of Castlerea represented a far more convincing and assured display from the Galway champions.
Castlerea did enjoy a decent spell of possession and presented some degree of genuine menace for one 10 minute window before halftime, but for the remainder of this match, Corofin played the game at a much higher level than their opponents.
The early part of the semifinal was played through a hail storm which wouldn’t have been out of place in the land of the Northern Lights, but all through those adverse conditions, Corofin did the simple things a lot better than their opponents.
Corofin, and their manager Jimmy Sice, will have been well satisfied with the efficiency of this display although this week they will programme into their future plans, the very obvious limitations of the Roscommon champions.
Defensively Castlerea scrapped hard for possessionand they got a reasonable return from midfield, but up front their forwards made almost no headway against a very tight Corofin defence.
