Classic fairytales get new life at An Taibhdhearc
Rehearsals are underway an An Taibhdhearc for its Christmas show, Hans Christian agus a Chairde, a new musical drama based on the fairytales of Danish writer, Hans Christian Andersen.
He is renowned for classics including Thumbelina, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid
Daithí O’Donnell will play Hans in An Taibhdhearc’s show, and there will be Irish dancers from the Hession School of Irish Dance as well as ballerinas from Youth Ballet West.
Hans Christian agus a Chairde, which features 30 young people from Galway City and County, is directed by An Taibhdhearc’s artistic director Anne McCabe and musical direction is by the accomplished Matthew Berrill, who plays across a variety of genres.
The run start on December 13 and there will be shows at 11.30am until Friday December 16, to facilitate schools. Evening shows will begin on December 16 and there will also be matinées at the weekend.
Promising to be musical and dance extravaganza, this brand-new production has been written by Mary Mc Carthy, a teacher from Gaelscoil Mhic Amhlaigh. It follows the success of Annie at an Taibhdhearc last year.
