Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Post is being asked to clarify its future plans for the post office in Athenry following the re-allocation of sorting staff.
Galway East Fine Gael T.D Paul Connaughton says the decision to transfer 11 sorting staff from Athenry to Loughrea next month has raised concern for the future of the town’s post office.
20 post offices have closed throughout the county since 2005, the third highest rate of closures in the country behind Cork and Mayo, according to party colleague Seán Kyne.
Deputy Connaughton says he is working with local Councillor Peter Feeney to get reassurances on a full range of services for Athenry post office.
