Date Published: 05-Apr-2013
Damage to county council property will no longer be tolerated.
That’s the message from Cllr Jimmy McClearn, the Chairperson of the CCTV sub-committee.
Cllr McClearn says one million euro in damage was recorded at various county council estates last year and plans are now being finalised to install CCTV to stamp out such behaviour.
In one county housing estate, 450 thousand euro of damage was done while in another almost 300 thousand euro worth of damage has been recorded.
He made his comments in the aftermath of the publication of as the county Joint Policing Committee report for 2012.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Cllr McClearn said the local authority has a responsibility to the taxpayer to ensure this type of behaviour does not continue.
