Claddagh’s swans inspire new ballet

Youth Ballet West will present their latest work, Claddagh Swans, at The Town Hall Theatre this Saturday and Sunday, November 6 and 7.

The organisation’s choreographer Judith Sibley was inspired by the swans that are such a part of the city’s Claddagh area to create this new piece for the dancers of Youth Ballet West.

With an original score by Peter Tobin, featuring Tchaikovsky and Saint-Saens as well as Declan O’Rourke, BellX1, The Corrs and others, the action moves between a contemporary vision of the traditional Swan Lake ballet to mesmerising underwater scenes.

There are moments of comedy too while a stunning backdrop of Claddagh images, the work of photographer Darach Glennon, adds an extra dimension to this new work.

Claddagh Swans is on at the Town Hall this Saturday at 7pm and on Sunday at 5pm. Tickets at www.tht.ie, costing €20/15.
