Galway City Tribune- Galway’s intelligent traffic light systems are so smart – fixers must come from Dublin when they’re on the blink!

Uinsinn Finn, Senior Engineer with Galway City Council, confirmed that when the traffic lights on the Tuam Road malfunctioned recently – causing hours of delays and tailbacks for motorists – specialists had to travel from Dublin to fix them.

Mr Finn was responding to queries from a number of city councillors who complained that one particular evening had been horrendous for traffic delays.

He said that there was a failure of the system on Tuam Road but the ‘bloop’ has been fixed and traffic is “flowing better now”.

Normally, he said, glitches are rectified within half an hour, but this particular problem lasted overnight, and was the worst he had since during his three years at City Hall.

He said the specialised technology is made by a company in Switzerland and engineers had to travel to Galway from Dublin to fix it.
