CITY SYMPOSIUM TO DISCUSS NEW CANCER EPIDEMIC
A city symposium on cancers related to the human papilloma virus is likely to ignite debate on the vaccination of boys.
The number of head and neck cancers related to HPV are rising in the US and parts of Western Europe, and are three times more likely to occur in men than women.
The current HPV cervical vaccination programme, rolled out in late 20-10, is aimed at preventing school girls from developing cervical cancer during their adult years.
A symposium at NUI Galway next month will discuss the challenges of the new cancers which the American cancer society claim is an epidemic. (17 May)
