City social welfare office to partially reopen tomorrow following fatal accident
Galway bay fm newsroom – The city social welfare office is to reopen tomorrow morning.
The facility in Hynes Building on Augustine Street had been closed today as Gardai and HSA officials carry out an examination.
The Department of Social Protection says the local office will reopen tomorrow morning – however the Community Welfare Service office based upstairs will not be open.
The temporary office closure follows a tragic accident at the multi-storey building yesterday after which a three year old Nigerian boy died.
Solomon Soremekun died after he became trapped in the lift shaft at the office at Hynes Building.
It’s understood he was with his mother and at least two other siblings at the building at around 3p.m when the incident occurred.
A post-mortem is continuing at University Hospital Galway this evening.
