Galway city residents are the top recyclers in the Country for the second year in a row.

Figures released by Rehab Glassco show that in the first eight months of this year, an average of 57 glass jars and bottles were recycled by every man, woman and child in the city.

This is much higher than the national average of 40 bottles and jars per person.

In the County, 43 glass bottles and jars were recycled per head of population.

The busiest site was the bring banks in the Western Distributor road with 255 tonnes collected, while in the county, 156 tonnes were deposited in bottle banks at the Oranmore car park.

Operations Manager with Rehab Glassco, David Farrelly says the figures show that recycling has become routine for households in Galway
