City pub patrons aid German tourist thief catch thief
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Customers in a city pub showed their civic spirit when they came to the aid of a distraught German tourist who had her belongings stolen by a opportunistic thief.
Patrons at Sally Long’s pub on Abbeygate Street formed a posse and tracked the thief to Eyre Square, where he was sitting in a bus bound for Limerick.
They kept him in their sights until Gardaí arrived to arrest him.
43 year-old, Christopher Murphy of 2 Sheelin Drive, Caherdavin, Limerick, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to stealing the woman’s clothing valued at €200, her €2,000 camera and her wallet containing €70 on May 27th last year.
Judge Timothy Lucey sentenced Murphy to four months in prison which he suspended for one year.
