City must step up tempo to secure Concert Hall
Date Published: 15-Feb-2008
Galway’s bid forGovernment funding for a multi-million euro state-of-the-art concert hall and conference centre will collapse unless a major lobbying campaign is undertaken by the city, it has been warned.
City Councillor Padraig Conneely has ‘put it up’ to the major stakeholders in the business, arts and tourism industries in the city to lobby the Government intensively to ensure Galway doesn’t lose out to other cities.
The building proposed for Fisheries Field is one of three projects in the Council’s bid for a slice of the €300 million Gateway Innovation Funding.
The other two projects include a town centre and quality bus corridor for the proposed town of Ardaun (which is estimated to cost €30
million) and the ‘double tracking’ of the railway line between Galway and Athenry.
