Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway City Museum is hoping to create a ‘cultural hub’ in the city by creating a new exhibition dedicated to medieval Galway at the site of the old city museum.
Comerford House, located at the Spanish Arch, was built in the early 19th century and served as the previous city museum until 2006.
In a presentation to the City Council, the Museum’s ‘New Vision’ document recommended that the new exhibition would extend Comerford House and would include a theatre, exhibition gallery, a glass viewing floor and a link to the new museum.
The project would require around 2 million in funding from Fáilte Ireland, which will not be available until 2015.
Chairman of the City Council’s Cultural Committee, Councillor Padraig Conneely says that Comerford house is of huge cultural importance to the city.
