CITY MEDIEVAL WALLS TO BE PROTECTED
The city’s medieval walls are to be preserved and protected for tourism and education purposes.
The final plan to conserve the walls, which are visible at the Eyre Square shopping centre and at Spanish Arch, is expected to be published this month.
The plan went on public display earlier this year, and several submissions were made by interested parties including Fáilte Ireland and the Old Galway Society.
The walls were one of the most prominent monuments built in medieval times, and helped shape the town’s character, streetscape and layout.
