CITY MAN TO SERVE 9 MONTHS FOR SLASH HOOK ATTACK

A 33-year-old man who helped his brother break another man’s leg with a slash hook during an assault in broad daylight in Ballybane has been jailed for two years with fifteen months suspended.
Joseph Dodd, formerly of 213 Leas na Coille, Ballybane, and who now lives in rented accommodation at 58 The Friary, Claregalway, pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to assaulting 25 year old Patrick Maughan causing him harm at Old Mervue Road, Ballybane, on June 5, 2008.
He also admitted producing a slash hook during the assault.
