CITY MAN GETS FOUR YEARS FOR ASSAULTING PARTNER

A 51-year-old city man who broke his partner’s ribs and gave her two black eyes when she didn’t cook his dinner, has been given a four-year sentence with the final two years suspended.

Matthew Drohan, of 14 Beal Srutha, Ballybane has been described by a judge as a ‘mortal danger’ to his partner who he had treated like an animal.

Defence barrister, Francis Comerford, said it was a dysfunctional relationship but the couple had been together for fifteen years and it was not up to the court to ‘engineer’ their lives.
