CITY MAN FOUND GUILTY OF ASSAULT
Date Published: 24-Mar-2011
A 25-year-old city man has been found guilty of causing serious head injuries to another man who lost a quarter of his skull following a street brawl two years ago.
25 year old Dean O’Brien, of 16 Droim Chaoin, Rahoon, had denied he intentionally or recklessly caused serious harm to 30 year old Barry Mannion at William Street West, in the early hours of December 28, 2009.
He had also denied assaulting Mr Mannion, causing him harm, and further denied producing a bottle during the course of the assault.
Mr Mannion had been punched once in the face by O’Brien when he intervened to break up a fight between his friend, Declan Connolly and O’Brien and two of his friends on Dominick Street in the early hours of December 28, 2009.
The jury took just over four hours to find O’Brien guilty of all three charges.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on July 13th.
