CITY MAN ACQUITTED OF DRUGS CHARGES

A man who was charged with being a heroin dealer in the city, walked free from Galway Circuit Court this week after a Judge directed a jury to find him not guilty.
Following protracted legal argument in the absence of the jury at the trial of 32 year old Jason Shaughnessy, a native of no. 5 Claddagh Place, who also has an address at 74 Coogan Park, Judge Raymond Groarke directed the jury to find the accused not guilty.
Jason Shaughnessy denied having heroin in his possession at or near 21 St. Dominick’s Road, Galway, on May 11 last year
He also denied a second charge of having the heroin in his possession for sale or supply to another on the same date.
A jury was empanelled to hear evidence in the trial, but following lengthy legal argument ,Judge Raymond Groarke directed the jury foreman to record a “not guilty” verdict.
