CITY HAS COUNTRY’S HIGHEST POPULATION OF SINGLE PEOPLE

Galway city has the highest population of single people in the country.

A 2011 report from the Central Statistics Office revealed that less than 30 per cent of adult living in the city are married.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office 2011 Census on Households and Families show that 63 per cent of those living in Galway City are single.

Dublin city recorded the second highest number of single people at 61 per cent with Cork city close behind at 51 per cent.

However, Galway city has experienced the biggest increase in marriage rates since 2006 with a 4 per cent rise from 32 to 36 per cent.
