City crime levels drop by 20 percent
Galway bay fm newsroom – Overall crime levels have dropped in the city by 23 percent.
The figures for the first six months of this year were presented by Garda Chief Superintendent Tom Curley at this week’s meeting of the Joint Policing Committee.
Members heard that just over three thousand incidents were recorded in the period.
The rate of burglary dropped by 19 percent with 167 incidents on record.
However theft from person increased by over 50 percent and theft from shop increased by 9 percent.
Chief Superintendent Curley said the detection rate for burglaries is between 25 and 30 percent and is intelligence driven.
He said Gardai depend on the assistance of the public to clamp-down on burglaries
