CITY COURTS MAKE 138 NEW REFERRALS TO PROBATION SERVICE

138 new referrals were made to the probation service last year [2011] at Galway city courts.

The figures are compiled in the Probation Service Annual Report and show a 40% national increase in the number of community service orders made compared with 2010.

In Galway city, 95 referrals to the probation service were made by the District Court, while 40 were madeby the Circuit and Higher Courts.

There were also 3 appeals from the District to Circuit Court for referrals.

To the county now and 29 referrals to the probation service were made in Ballinasloe District Court followed by 16 in Tuam District Court.

All other courts within the county that are not listed in the report made less than 12 such referrals.
