CITY COUNCILLORS GET UPDATE ON VOLVO OCEAN RACE PLANS

Efforts to get Galway ready for the finale of the Volvo Ocean race this July are well underway.

President of Let’s do it Global John Killeen gave a presentation to councillors at city hall last evening.

The July event is to be significantly bigger than 2009.

There are two villages this time around- the race village in the Harbour area and the Global village in Southpark.

Organisers are also in talks with Gardaí and city officials to minimise traffic disruptions during the event.

Councillors will vote on a licence for the event at the end of the month.
