CITY COUNCILLORS CONDEMN GALWAY ALLIANCE AGAINST WAR HOUSE PROTESTS
Date Published: 12-Jun-2012
City Councillors have condemned the protest actions of Galway Alliance Against War.
It follows pickets outside the private family homes of Galway West TDs Derek Nolan and Brian Walsh over the weekend.
The anti-war group wanted to highlight its concerns about a recent Garda raid at member Niall Farrell’s home during which a number of computers and DVDs were confiscated.
At last evening’s meeting of the city council, 13 members voted to support a motion tabled by Cllr Billy Cameron to condemn the action.
These included Fianna Fail Cllr Ollie Crowe who said such incidents will make the idea of running for public office too intrusive.
Cllr Catherine Connolly voted against stating that the motion was an inappropriate use of council time and that she knew little about what happened during the raid.
While Cllr Collette Connolly chose to abstain from the vote after stating that she did not know the context of what occurred in the Garda raid.
