City Councillor calls for action on Corrib Park development

Galway Bay fm newsroom – City Councillor Billy Cameron says the only feasible means of securing funding for the next phase of development at Corrib Park is through the sports capital grants.

Phase one of the project, which includes synthetic pitches, cost 380 thousand euro and went ahead with funding from city council, RAPID and the Department of arts, sports and tourism.

The second phase of the development is a full size grass pitch and Corrib Rangers have sufficient funds to leverage 500 thousand euro from the sports capital programme.

However, Councillor Cameron says because of the current licensing conditions it must be a combined application with city council.

He’s now calling for a meeting with all relevant parties to discuss the proposal.
