City Councillor brands Galway as ‘pedestrian hostile’
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A City Councillor has desribed Galway as ‘pedestrian hostile’.
Councillor Collette Connolly made the comments at last evening’s meeting of the local authority during debate on advancing and improving the city for people with disabilities.
The Labour councillor told the meeting that several pedestrian lights across the city were badly placed including those close to the cathedral, GMIT and NUI Galway.
She argues that priority should be given to pedestrians and more zebra crossings should be installed.
Director of Services Tom Connell said a clear structure was being followed in relation to facilitating the city as an accessible location for all.
Cllr Colette Connolly’s motion that the council install zebra crossings where feasible as identified by area councillors and that a zero tolerance in relation to illegal parking be acted upon was passed at last night’s meeting.
The motion also states that a review of the pedestrian lights at GMIT and NUI Galway be carried out.
