CITY COUNCIL WORK AGAIN HAMPERED BY ROWS
Date Published: 18-Dec-2007
The business of running the city was halted last evening as old tensions flared up at a meeting of the City Council
The meeting, which got underway at 4pm yesterday was frought with arguments among Councillors from the very start
However it was a row which erupted between two former party colleagues which prevented any further business being completed
When Mayor Tom Costello asked Councillor Catherine Connolly to apologize for insulting comments she had made about him at a previous meeting, she refused to go further than saying she withdrew them unreservedly
While several conciliatory attempts were made by other Councillors to move the meeting along, Mayor Costello and Councillor Connolly would not budge
A motion was passed by a majority vote that Councillor Connolly must leave the meeting but she refused
It was agreed by Councillors that the meeting be adjourned and all Councillors, Officials, media and members of the public who were present disbanded after just over an hour of to-ing and fro-ing with no business discussed
