Galway city council has agreed to step up the campaign to prevent illegal parking in the city centre.

Councillor Colette Connolly’s motion that the council target illegal parking starting with disabled parking spaces was passed at last evening’s meeting of the city council.

It also included a provision that the city council write to city schools over parents and guardians parking illegally when collecting and dropping off children.

The motion was passed unanimously after debate over wheelchair and disabled access in the city.

During the meeting, Councillors watched a documentary called ‘Welcome to our world’ which highlights the lack of access for wheelchair users in the city
