Galway bay fm news – Galway city council is to carry out major upgrade works on wastewater infrastructure after a Government cash injection.

The Department of environment has allocated 4.6 million to the local authority for upgrade works, which will remove four overflows and reduce spill frequencies.

It will involve the laying of around 2.4 kilometres of new sewer pipelines in the city, and the construction of 3 new storage tanks.

It’s part of a 20 million project to upgrade the system and monies will continue to be allocated in the coming years.

Galway West TD Sean Kyne says the investment will help ensure that discharges into rivers, lakes and coastal water meet the highest international standards
