A top official at Galway City Council has said they will be ‘pressing on’ with the partially granted city bypass.

City Manager, Joe McGrath says that he will be supporting this week’s decision by An Bord Pleanala, as it has been over two years in the pipeline.

The Board granted permission for part of the bypass between the junction of Garraun and Gortatleva, and refused development west of the N59 between the junction of Gortatleva and An Baile Nua.

Speaking to Keith Finnegan today, Joe McGrath says he will support what has been granted for the bypass so far.

Meanwhile, Galway Chamber is calling for elected representatives to work together to overturn the decision to grant part of the citys outer bypass.

It says the road is essential for economic growth and traffic calming measures, and accepting just ‘half a bypass’ is simply not good enough.
