CITY COUNCIL SAYS TRAFFIC FINE REVENUE NOT LOST
Date Published: 18-Dec-2012
Galway City Council says revenue from 349 traffic cases, which were struck out of court last week, is not lost to the State.
The traffic summonses were individually struck out by the Judge because the City Council didn’t correctly quote the relevant Traffic Act.
The cases had been brought over non-payment of traffic fines.
Councillor Padraig Conneely claims the error could cost the taxpayer substantially in legal fees and loss of revenue.
However a spokesperson for Galway City Council says that they expect to re-issue the summonses.
