A planning application for a light rail system in Galway city has gone before An Bord Pleanála, without the knowledge of the City Council.

At last evening’s City Council meeting, it was revealed that TramPower Limited, on behalf of the GLUAS group has applied for planning for the system.

Permission is being sought under the Strategic Infrastructure Act, which means the plans can go straight to An Bord Pleanála, without going to the City Council.

Concern was expressed by some councillors and officials that they were not informed about plans for a system which would go through City lands.
