City Council issues alert about potential flooding

Galway bay fm newsroom – Met Éireann has issued two new weather warnings as high winds continue in many places.

A Status Orange alert has been issued for Galway and the west, with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour and warnings of localised flooding.

Galway City Council is warning about potential flooding today, tomorrow and the weekend at High Tide times.

The critical times are 5.42pm today, tomorrow at 6am & 6.30pm, Saturday at 6.48am and 7.18pm and Sunday morning at 7.36.

The areas most likely to be affected are along the Promenade in Salthill and Grattan Road and at Fishmarket, Spanish Arch.

Businesses and residents in these areas are advised to put floodgates and sand-bags in place in advance of high tide.

The car park at Toft Park beside the Atlantaquarium is liable to flood again in the hours around high tide and motorists are advised not to leave their cars there.
