City council calls on government to accelerate insurance reform programme

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway city council has called on the government to accelerate its insurance reform programme.

The emergency motion was raised by councillor Donal Lyons due to the impact of rising insurance costs on local community groups, voluntary organisations and small businesses.

It also calls on the government to establish a distinct insurance fraud unit within An Garda Siochana.

Councillor Lyons says rising costs are crippling small organisations, particularly in the leisure industry.
