CITY COUNCIL ADMITS VERBAL AGREEMENT AT CENTRE OF LAND DISPUTE
Date Published: 18-May-2011
The City Council has admitted it only had a verbal agreement with the property owners of a site at the centre of a dispute on the Seamus Quirke Road.
The current owners of the site at the Fort Lorenzo roundabout are disputing the City council had permission to access their lands and have forced road widening works there to stop.
Director of Services Ciaran Hayes told this week’s city council meeting that the verbal agreement was made with "those who they believed were the owners of the site".
A spokesperson for the city council says lawyers for the current owners and the council are in discussions with each other so they cannot enter into any further public discussion on the matter.
Councillor Collette Connolly says details of the agreement should be made public as it’s the taxpayer who’s footing the bill.
