Galway Bay fm newsroom – City Manager Brendan McGrath is to brief councillors on the extent of the storm damage at Monday’s meeting of the local authority.

High tide is expected at 8 this evening and homes and businesses close to water are preparing themselves for flooding as gusts of up to 120 kilometres an hour hit the coast.

City Council staff have been removing debris from the Promenade in Salthill and from Ballyloughane beach while a technical assessment is also being undertaken at Leisureland.

More than 13 hundred Eircom customers were without service in Galway today.

A spokesperson says it could be five to six days before all faults are repaired.

Galway Chamber of Commerce says it’s now time for serious remedial action to be taken so that recurring flood problems can be addressed.

City Manager Brendan McGrath says that councillors will be briefed on the extent of the damage and the action plan to rectify it at their next meeting this day week.
