City Cllrs call for urgent action to end water disruption in Newcastle
Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are plans to replace the entire pipeline along Thomas Hynes Road in Newcastle following continued interruption to supply.
The outages were raised at a special meeting of Galway City Council last evening where a motion to urgently resolve the issue received unanimous backing.
Head of Finance Edel McCormack told members that the bursts had occurred at different lengths of pipe and that 30 metres of pipeline has already been replaced.
She said there is no reason for the bursts other than pipe fatigue.
The Director added that it’s proposed to replace the entire pipeline along the road and that the provision of an alternative supply is being examined in the event of another burst.
Labour Cllr Billy Cameron proposed the motion which called on city officials and Irish Water to resolve the problems.
He said the current text alert system should also be publicised again to ensure all householders and businesses are kept up to date.
