CITY CLLR HITS OUT AT REORGANISATION OF GALWAY SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE
Date Published: 03-Dec-2012
City Cllr Catherine Connolly has hit out at new reform plans which means Galway’s 283 primary schools are to have access to dental assessment no earlier that sixth class.
It follows the reorganisation of Galway Community Dental Service under which the current model sees a service inclusive of second, fourth and sixth class.
The re-organisation is in response to recent retirements in order to provide a fair and equitable service across the entire county.
The HSE says sixth class was chosen as children have usually lost all of their baby teeth at that stage and dentists can assess and treat their permanent teeth.
However, City Cllr Catherine Connolly who raised the matter at the last regional forum meeting has hit out at the reorganisation and described it as a retrograde step.
