Galway Bay fm newsroom – The operators of the city’s continental christmas market have been spared a fee of 20 thousand euro for the use of Kennedy Park on Eyre Square.

It follows a proposal raised by Fianna Fail Councillors when permission for the market came before the local authority last evening.

The initiative is being advanced by Galway City Business Association in partnership with Galway City Council and will run from November 22nd to December 22nd.

Director of Services Ciaran Hayes told members that a Christmas Park ‘n’ Ride service will be brought in in tandem.

Concerns were raised by some members regarding the pricing of items on display at market stalls.

Go-ahead for the market was granted subject to a list of 19 conditions.

One of these stipulated that the operators pay a fee of 20 thousand euro for the use of Kennedy Park, however this was deleted following a proposal by Fianna Fail Cllr Peter Keane.
