City childrens’ arts festival misses out on council arts grant
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Baboró Children’s Festival will miss out on arts funding from the City Council this year- because it missed the application deadline by 32 minutes.
Last evening’s special meeting of the City Council was told that the group would not be considered for an arts grant- but had secured €10,000 in funding from the Social Inclusion fund.
Councillor Catherine Connolly asked that a written report be provided in relation to Baboró’s situation this year, along with copies of its applications.
She said it would be ‘in the interest of goodwill’ to give an amnesty to groups that have been long-term contributors to the Galway arts scene.
Four other groups which also submitted applications after the 12pm deadline on May 31st could not be considered for an arts grant.
‘Tunes in the Church’ missed the deadline by 48 minutes, and Access Music’s application was received almost three hours past the 12pm cut-off.
In total, the Council received 88 on-time applications, of which 76 were recommended for funding.
Councillor Niall McNelis says the application date will now be changed for 2014.
