City ceremony to mark world day of remembrance for road traffic victims

Galway bay fm newsroom -Galway Gardaí are asking pedestrians to take more precautions when it comes to road safety.

The appeal is being made ahead of world remembrance day for road traffic victims which is being marked with a special ceremony in the city.

Galway Gardaí are urging pedestrians to wear high visibility clothing when out walking, and to take extra care when walking along roads at night time.

10 people have died on Galway roads so far this year; 5 motorists, 4 pedestrians and one cyclist.

There were 19 fatalities last year, 10 motorists, 5 pedestrians, 3 motorcyclists and 1 cyclist.

A ceremony to remember all those affected by road traffic collisions takes place in the Menlo Park hotel on the Headford road at 2.30 pm this Sunday.

It’s being organised by PARC road safety group, and spokesperson Ann Fogarty says they want it to be an uplifting ceremony
