The water supply to the city centre has been restored after a burst pipe left homes and businesses in the city without water since this morning.

A spokesperson for the city council has confirmed the problem causing the burst pipe has been resolved.

Council crews established a third party contractor burst a pipe while carrying out excavation work in the area.

The council is warning householders that it will take time for normal water pressure in the city to be replenished but is confident all households and businesses will have full water pressure by tomorrow morning.

The public is also urged to be cautious of air locks which may occur in the system, but council crews will be monitoring them over the weekend.
