CITY BUDGET TO BE REVISTED BECAUSE OF FUNDING SHORTFALL
Date Published: 21-Dec-2007
The budget for Galway City is to be revisited in the New Year because of a funding shortfall by the government
Galway City has received a funding increase of 4 and a half percent for 2008 from the government BUT city officials had budgeted for a 5.5% increase.
As a result the estimates which were passed at the beginning of this month will have to be looked at again
City Councillor Padraig Conneely is critical of the shortfall, saying Galway has suffered from the recent water crisis and needs a funding boost rather than a funding reduction
Councillor Conneely of Fine Gael thinks services in the city will now suffer because of the loss and the Government is showing a lack of commitment to the city
