An unused and dangerous bridge in the city looks set for a major transformation.

Planners have got the go ahead to replace the pedestrian bridge between the fisheries watch tower and the Wolfe Tone bridge near the Spanish Arch.

The Western Fisheries Board was given the green light to replace the old bridge subject to 13 conditions.

Among these is that the existing bridge must be surveyed and recorded by a conservation architect prior to being dismantled.
