Christmas sparkle

Christmas in Galway promises to be bigger and brighter this year with an additional €60,000 investment to be made in the City’s Christmas lights display.

With Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Eamon O’Cuiv’s already pledging €57,500 to the project, allied with the contributions made by local businesses and traders and Galway City Council, the Christmas lights display in Galway this year will cost approximately €150,000.

This is a significant increase in expenditure. For example, in 2003, approximately €50,000 was spent on the venture in the city centre.

The project was then expanded to include Salthill a year later, with an additional €30,000 allotted to the display.
