Choice-winner Jape for intimate concert at Loam

The Nocturne Night in Loam has come with perhaps its greatest coup so far, with the announcement that Jape will be playing there this Sunday, December 4.

The only Irish artist to have won the Choice Music Prize twice, Jape (aka Richie Egan) makes exquisite music. His last album The Chemical Sea was a superb collection of tunes, which he recorded in Malmo, Sweden. If you want to get a flavour of what the album is about, go and listen to Seance of Light, The Heart’s Desire or Absolutely Animals.

Richie has a knack for writing songs that are both cerebral and toe-tapping. This could be explained, in part, by the fact that he is the bass player in the superb Redneck Manifesto.

“We can’t really play together anymore because we live in different countries, and I really, really missed playing the bass,” Richie says. “When I started working on The Chemical Sea, I took the bass up as the sort of lead-instrument. It’s all bass, synth, vocals and samples.”

Richie Egan makes superb music, and is always tinkering away on something.  He’s not averse to playing new material, and it’s at those moments that there’s a chance to glimpse the buzzing creativity behind. Hopefully there’ll be some new songs in the set, along with some gems from his enviable catalogue. Worth heading to, most definitely.

Doors are at 7pm, tickets €20.
