Chiropractor to the stars reflects on rollercoaster Ryder Cup
While the Ryder Cup might be best forgotten from a European perspective, it still proved an experience to last a lifetime for one Tuam medical expert who was by their side to ensure that they were fit and well to play.
Tuam chiropractor Daryl Coyne is something of a veteran when it comes to treating the top names in golf – but he admits that his Ryder Cup experience was something completely different.
The 44-year-old has travelled with European teams in the past as their consultant chiropractor, but the absence of support for the visitors meant that this occasion in Whistling Straits in Minnesota was unusual to say the least.
“Some of them (US supporters) were certainly rowdy but many of those who shouted abuse were removed by the stewards but it was still a difficult for the European players in such a partisan environment,” said Daryl.
“But again, it was a situation like no other with so few European fans present but it was great to see the line Galway jersey along with a scattering of Kerry jerseys thrown in for good measure and they certainly made their presence felt.”
He was there to ensure that all of the players were injury-free and to rectify any aches and pains encountered and particularly after a lengthy flight.
Daryl, son of Paddy and Marian Coyne from Weir Road, Tuam, graduated from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of South Wales back in 2001 with a BSc Hons Degree.
