CHINESE MAN WORKING IN CITY TO WAIT 3 WEEKS FOR DEPORTATION
Date Published: 29-Apr-2008
A 31 year old Chinese man will have to wait three weeks, before he can be voluntarily deported from this country, Galway District Court heard yesterday.
Ning Qi, of no fixed abode, appeared in custody before the Court last week in an emaciated state.
He had been arrested for working illegally at a city internet cafe and consented to being deported back to China as soon as possible.
Ning Qi was arrested and taken into custody by Garda Jim McElroy on April 4 last while he was working illegally at the Runner Café in Eyre Square.
The court heard last week that the man was made work by other Chinese people for well below the minimum wage and had not been paid any money since Christmas.
He was also sleeping in the Café at night and had barely enough food to eat.
