Talented Belfast pianist Cahal Masterson will be giving an outreach performance for schools on Thursday ahead of his evening show.

Young Belfast pianist Cahal Masterson will be on stage in the City’s Hardiman Hotel next Thursday, November 4, at 7.30pm to perform a programme of music on the theme of childhood.

Earlier that day, he will perform the same programme, live and in person, to more than 500 school children, as well as via livestream to classrooms in Galway City, Galway County and further afield.

Following an extensive outreach programme in partnership with Music for Galway, Cahal’s performance will include Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood, Debussy’s Children’s Corner and a selection of Preludes for piano by Messiaen as well as work by Mozart.

Twenty-nine-year-old Cahal, who comes from a musical family in Belfast, graduated with a Master’s in Music Performance from Shenandoah University in the USA in 2019. He had previously completed an Artist Diploma at the Glenn Gould School in Toronto, Canada. Cahal, who has a BMus in Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin, has received numerous scholarships and awards. These days, he is mentored on a part-time basis by Professor Christopher Elton, Professor Emeritus of the Royal Academy of Music, London.

Cahal has performed as a soloist, vocal coach and chamber musician throughout Europe, North America and China.  He released his debut album, Transition at Sono Luminus, in 2018.

His Galway programme will be a short one and has an early starting time, so anyone with a child who can’t take part in the outreach event earlier on Thursday, is more than welcome to bring them to the Hardiman Hotel concert at 7.30pm.  Tickets are €20/€18. They are €6 for children and full-time students, and €18 for MfG Friends. Booking is online at musicforgalway.ie or by phone 091 705962.
